Why update your system?

Your system's remote control operates the system and connected devices like your TV, cable/satellite box and Blu-Ray player. Periodic updates keep your remote compatible with devices released after your system's date of manufacture. For more information, see our update details.

In addition, you may need to update your system for SoundTouch™.

Minimum system requirements

For Windows PC users:

  • 300 MHz processor (1 GHz for Vista) 32 or 64 bit
  • 128 MB RAM (Windows XP); 512 MB RAM (Vista Home Basic); 1 GB (other Vista editions)
  • Internet connection
  • 125 MB available hard disk space
  • USB 1.1 or 2.0 port

For Mac users:

  • OS v10.5 and v10.6
  • Intel-based processor
  • 512 MB RAM (10.5), 1 GB (10.6)
  • Internet connection
  • 125 MB available hard disk space
  • USB 2.0 port

Steps to complete

Before downloading

Note: If you are updating your system for SoundTouch™ and have completed Steps 1 and 2 in Unify, click Continue to system updates.

Step 1:
Plug the USB drive included with your system into the system's console (see illustration). Then, press the Setup button on the console, select "Update" and follow the instructions on the screen.

Step 2:
Now, plug the USB drive into a USB port on your computer before running the application (see illustration). Do not disconnect the USB drive while the update application is running. Doing so will cancel your upgrade.

Start downloading the software update

For Windows:

  • In the File Download window, click Run or Save
  • If Run, follow the prompts to perform the update
  • If Save, select a location for saving the file (Bose_System_Updater.exe). Then start the application from your hard drive and follow the prompts to perform the update

For Mac:

  • Wait for your computer to download the file. It will appear on your desktop as a hard drive icon
  • A window should open. Drag the updater file to the desktop as indicated. (If the window doesn't open, double-click the icon.)
  • Run the system updater from your desktop and follow the prompts to perform the update

Troubleshooting

Use the following information to help resolve the problem.

  • Make sure your Internet connection is working properly
  • Ensure that your system has written system information to the USB flash drive
  • Be sure your system is plugged in and powered on
  • If you are updating a Lifestyle® system, be sure your TV is powered on and set to the input for your Lifestyle® system
  • Press the Setup button on the system's console
  • Using your system remote control, select Update in the on-screen menu
  • Insert the USB flash drive into the USB jack on the front of your console and follow the onscreen instructions
  • Wait until your system instructs you to remove the USB drive
  • Remove the USB drive from your system and insert it into an available USB jack on your computer
  • The update process will read system information stored on the USB flash drive and determine if updates are available for your system
  • If updates are available, the process will write them to the USB flash drive
  • If the USB drive is not connected to your computer, or cannot be located, the update process will not complete

Tip: Connect the USB drive directly to an unused USB jack on your computer.

Help menu
The Help menu is available throughout the update process. From the Help menu, you can access:

  • License agreement: Review the license agreement
  • System information: View information about the current version of your system, as well as system information for your computer and operating system

What is the purpose of the Bose® home entertainment system update application?

This application allows for a simple, immediate software update directly from Bose® to your computer and into your system.

Why might I need to update my software?

Bose® home entertainment systems are engineered to be compatible with new audio and video devices as they come to market. This software update adds new features and remote control codes that your system will likely need to work with these new devices.

Will this update work with all Lifestyle® and VideoWave® systems?

No. The update works with all VideoWave® entertainment systems and the Lifestyle® V35, V25, T20, T10, 135 and 235 systems—or any other Lifestyle® system with a USB port.

Can this update be accomplished on both PCs and Macs?

Yes, with minimum operating system requirements: PCs must run Windows XP or higher. Macs must run OS 10 or higher.

Will this update affect my computer in any way?

Only temporarily. While the application is running, it will create and utilise temporary working files. When the application has finished and closed, it will remove all temporary working files including the application itself.

What if I lose my Bose-supplied USB drive?

You may use any USB drive with a capacity of over 1 GB to update your system. Simply follow the directions in the download application.

How long will the update take?

Is my Lifestyle® system compatible with 3D video sources for better gaming/movie experiences?

Yes, once you download the software update, your Lifestyle® system will be fully compatible with 3D video sources. Just connect a 3D TV and a 3D-capable Blu-ray Disc™ player, gaming console or other such device to your Lifestyle® system. You're now ready to enjoy 3D movies, broadcasts or games. Please note: The software update for the Bose® control console will not enable the VideoWave® entertainment systems to render 3D video.
